Joe Bradshaw

The board turned to another former Fulham player in 1926, but one who had gained some experience of management and who was also the son of a former manager.

Joe Bradshaw was born in Burnley in 1880, and played on the right wing for Fulham during his father's time at the Cottage 20 years earlier.

He had previously been with Southampton and Arsenal (with his father) and, on leaving Fulham in 1909, he had spells at Chelsea, QPR and Southend. It was at Southend in 1911 that he started in management, initially as player-manager, but after 1913, on full-time basis.

After the war, in 1919, he stepped up to the Football League with Swansea, and it was from South Wales that Fulham recruited him after Ducat's dismissal.

Unlike his father, Joe was not the man to turn an ailing club around and in his second season, the Cottagers dropped into the Third Division for the first time. When he failed to win promotion at the first attempt, Bradshaw's contract was not renewed and he started the 1929-30 season as manager of Bristol City.
