Aiming High for Disabled Children is a three year government initiative to improve services for children and young people with disabilities between the ages of 0 and 19 and help fulfil the potential of every disabled child. Aiming High for Disabled People in Kingston has helped develop many new services and is supporting two current Fulham FC Foundation projects.
Active Autism
Active Autism was established in 2008 and provides both multi-skill and football activity to young people with autism between the ages of 5-16. The Active Autism program provides regular weekend activity for young people with Autism and has seen increased levels of confidence, social interaction, concentration and health in the participants since its foundation.
The project has seen the creation of the “Fulham Autistic Boys” team (FAB) who participate monthly in the Surrey Primary League, a disability specific league delivered by the Surrey FA. FAB currently run two sides, an under 12’s team and an under 16’s, which provide additional experiences to the young people, including teamwork, leadership and communication.
The project runs two separate sessions on Saturday mornings, the first session for children under 10, runs from 09.00–09.30, and is followed by a session running 10.00–12.00 for children who are older.
Saturdays:
Dysart School, Ewell Road, Surbiton.
09.00–09.30 (under 10)
10.00–12.00 (10-16)
Inclusive Basketball
Working in partnership with the Kingston Wildcats community basketball team, Fulham FC Foundation offers basketball coaching on Monday evenings.
The session takes place at Chessington Community College, home venue of the Kingston Wildcats and is delivered by both Fulham FC Foundation and Kingston Wildcats coaches.
The project is based on a pan-disability model and provides young people with various disabilities an opportunity to benefit from quality basketball coaching and refine their skills in a fun and inclusive environment.
A further aim of the project is to develop an inclusive element of the Kingston Wildcats and capacity build with their coaches.
Mondays:
