Champions in the Community Awards Event
Craven Cottage welcomed young volunteers from Fulham Football Club Foundation’s 2009 Community Champions volunteering programme in August 2009.
The event celebrated a successful first year of the programme and awards were handed out to recognise the achievements of some of the positive work carried out by the volunteers in the local community.
The programme has worked with over 150 young volunteers aged between 14 and 25, offering sports based volunteering opportunities within the nine London and Surrey boroughs that the club serves.
The volunteering opportunities have included sports coaching, social inclusion assignments and office based work and those taking part have all had an opportunity to develop a number of skills.
There were awards up for grabs in five categories, Volunteer of the Year, Young Volunteer of the Year, Most Dedicated Volunteer, Most Improved Volunteer and Volunteer Sports Coach of the Year.
Luca Petre from Kingston took the Volunteer of the Year trophy.
Luca commented:
“I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with my life, but now I’ve a much better idea. I’ve always loved sports and I’ve always loved working with young people and by taking part in Fulham’s Community Champions programme, I have been fortunate to be able to do both. The work the Fulham Football Club Foundation does is incredible, and everyone works very hard, including the volunteers.”
