There was a renewed confidence going into this first home game of the season and the opening stages saw Fulham once again monopolise possession, though without gaining the rewards their play deserved.
It was bizarre that for all their chances in the first-half the Whites came off the pitch at the interval only one goal to the good. Some great trickery from Max Noble down the left took him into the box and past his marker. Flummoxed by Noble’s skill, the full-back clumsily brought him down. Noble dusted himself off to take the penalty but saw it saved, however Lewis Smith, like all good poachers, was on hand to tuck away the rebound.
After a poor first-half it was fair to assume that there would be a reaction from Ipswich and it duly came. They looked to create openings but once again Fulham’s backline stood firm. Once this storm had been weathered Fulham pushed on in search of goals. Three substitutions were made and all of them played an important part. The second goal came courtesy of Wayne Jackson. A deep cross from the right was kept in play on the left, the ball was laid back to Joe Anderson, who crossed into the box, Lewis Smith nodded the ball back across goal and Wayne Jackson headed home.
Second-half substitute, Kai Bichard put the game beyond doubt when he nicked the ball off his own player before slamming home to make it 3-0; an excellent performance that put the Whites top of the League.
