West Ham 0-2 Reserves

Tuesday 23rd January 2007

Bjorn RunstromTwo second half goals from Bjorn Runstrom handed Fulham’s Reserves a deserved victory over West Ham on Tuesday evening.

Chances were few and far between in the first half as West Ham worked hard to close the Whites down and prevent the visitors creating any meaningful chances. However, Fulham upped their game in the second half and were able to dictate play with greater freedom.

Runstrom scored his first of the night on 68 minutes. A fine pass from Matty Collins dissected the West Ham back line and afforded Yinka Casal a shooting opportunity. The winger’s effort struck the post but Runstrom was on hand to tap the rebound home from four yards.

The Whites guaranteed all three points minutes later with a lethal counter attack. Gabriel Zakuani started the move when he won possession in Fulham’s penalty area and passed to Wayne Brown. The ball was worked to Claus Jensen whose lofted pass over West Ham’s left back fell perfectly for the overlapping TJ Moncur. The cross was played in first time and Runstrom placed a superb header in the top corner.

Speaking after the match, Reserve Team Manager, Billy McKinlay, was pleased with his side’s display.

“The players know what they’re capable of and they were disappointed with the first half display,” he said. “Although it was a difficult game, at times we need to show a bit more belief in ourselves and our ability to get the ball down and play. That’s what happened in the second half.

“It was pleasing to see the guys grind it out in the first half before playing the type of football we know we’re capable. They showed a great attitude.”
