Fulham’s pre-season campaign moved up a gear in Hong Kong on Tuesday in the Barclays Asia Trophy. Despite losing by a goal to nil to Premiership rivals Portsmouth, Lawrie Sanchez’ side showed plenty of promise ahead of the new campaign.
Despite the evening kick-off the intense humidity was a test for both sets of players inside the Hong Kong Stadium, as Simon Davies revealed.
“It was difficult out there because it was really hot but we had a good workout in the end. I think we created enough chances to win the game but most importantly we got a good workout in very tough conditions and we can only benefit from that.
“I think the crowd can take some credit for today as they created a good atmosphere and it made both of us try and win the game and that certainly helped. I have played in a tournament in Thailand before and the crowd wasn’t as good as they were today - it was probably a better game than everyone thought it might be."
Fulham face South China on Friday evening (KO 11am UK) before heading back for their final week of pre-season training at Motspur Park. Davies believes Lawrie Sanchez’ preferred starting line up will become clearer when the Whites face QPR on Friday 3rd August.
”We'll have another hard game against South China on Friday which is another step in the right direction and when we get back we are in the final week of training. I think it's still early days yet and we probably won't see a line up until QPR and have a better idea of where we are by then.”
