Brian McBride is progressing soundly following a rupture of his quad muscle, which was surgically repaired by the US National Team’s knee specialist. At this point in time we are hoping to have Brian back and involved by around Christmas.
Lee Cook is improving; he turned a corner over the last two weeks. He still has around four to six weeks ahead of him before he can get back into good, constructive work but he is certainly moving in the right direction.
Kasey Keller suffered a ruptured bicep tendon in his left shoulder where the tendon inserts into the shoulder joint. He had surgery with the US National Team’s representative and is now making a steady recovery. However, his programme at the moment is limited in terms of what he can do. We are looking at around nine to 10 weeks with Kasey.
Jimmy Bullard has begun doing some work on the training pitch with the Under 18s. He will progress over the next few weeks to Reserve training sessions before moving on to full training with the First Team. Depending on how he progresses and responds, the timeframe we are looking at is between four to eight weeks.
Philippe Christanval was due to go back into training when he developed an irritation to a small bone in his big toe. The bone is showing a stress reaction which is stopping him from bearing weight on that side. Unfortunately the progress with this injury is slow and we will monitor him closely to determine if further intervention is required.
Ian Pearce has had an ongoing calf problem which we feel has turned the corner over the last week. We would like to think that he will progress over the next seven to 10 days to a point where he will be looking to return to some football-based work.
After receiving treatment from specialists both here in London and in Germany, Moritz Volz is recovering well and is working on his fitness. We would like to think that he will be back in training in the next seven to 10 days.
Simon Elliott, who has had a lengthy problem with the calf and Achilles areas in both legs, is progressing well. He is in the latter stages of a programme which has been developed by the world’s leading tendon specialist. Simon is in the final six-week stage of his programme, at the end of which he will be looking at doing far more functional work.
Nathan Ashton pulled one of the quadricep muscles in his left leg in training before the Liverpool match. With the international break upon us, we have used the time to make sure he will be available for our next game against Blackburn.
