The Premier League’s Dubious Goals Committee, having viewed all relevant goals between August 11th and October 19th, has ruled that Alexey Smertin’s goals against Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur were own goals by Gerald Cid and Ricardo Rocha respectively.
Smertin’s 28th minute strike against Bolton proved to be the winning goal, ensuring the Whites of their first three-point haul of the season. Whilst his effort against Tottenham, which spun over Paul Robinson following a deflection, pulled Fulham back into the game, making the score 2-3.
