Reading 0-2 Reserves

Wednesday 19th September 2007

JohnMoritz Volz and Collins John got on the score sheet as Fulham’s Reserves recorded their first win of the season. The Whites fielded a number of experienced players with John and Volz accompanied by Shefki Kuqi, Danny Murphy and Kasey Keller.

Volz opened the scoring in the 8th minute with a spectacular solo effort which saw the former German Under 21 international dribble past a number of Reading defenders before finishing in style past Adam Federici.

The home side threatened to level matters, with two good opportunities for Simon Church going begging before John doubled Fulham’s advantage just before the half hour mark. A long clearance from Keller was flicked into John’s path by Kuqi – the Dutch striker powered past the Royals’ defenders to delicately touch the ball over Federici.

The second half saw the home side push hard to find a way back into the game but Fulham’s defence maintained their shape and discipline to limit Reading to a handful of half chances. On the occasions that the defence was breached, Keller was on hand to snuff out any danger – as was the case in the 60th minute when Shane Long was set free only to have the ball stolen by the alert Fulham goalkeeper.

Fulham: Keller, Volz, Ashton, Watts, Milson, Omozusi, Murphy, Brown (Moncur 48), Timlin, Kuqi, John
