The Whites could not have opened with a much tougher encounter as they travelled to East London to take on an Academy side renowned for their strength.
However, Fulham went into the game with confidence on the back of a pre-season of very hard work on the training ground and some encouraging results in their friendly fixtures.
Fulham started the game the brighter and moved the ball at a good pace. The midfield were getting the ball into the final third with quality, both Hudson-Odoi and Noble caused problems down their respective flanks. The only disappointment was the lack of clinical finishing to go with the greater possession.
The Whites looked the more confident throughout and their possession was rewarded midway through the second-half as Michael Uwezu wriggled free of his marker and sped away to slot confidently past the keeper. An excellent goal, but perhaps the plaudits should go to the defensive unit who kept out everything West Ham threw at them and looked solid throughout.
Fulham got another goal later in the game courtesy of Lewis Smith but it was somewhat bizarrely adjudged to be offside. Despite this, it was a very pleasing way for the Whites to kick off their campaign.
