Danny Murphy’s injury time strike in Wednesday’s Carling Cup tie against Leicester City steered the Whites clear of a draining extra-time period and ensured Fulham of a place in Saturday’s Third Round draw.
Speaking after the match, Fulham Manager, Roy Hodgson, praised the recently appointed Club Captain.
“When push comes to shove he’s a fellow you can rely upon,” said Hodgson. “He’s a hundred percent man; he never stops working even if things aren’t going well.
"We’re very thankful that first Bullard and then Murphy can pull two long-distance strikes out of the bag to keep us in a game which, for long periods, we looked like losing.
“We made him Captain for several reasons, he’s a very good influence with the other players, he’s a thinker, he takes the game very seriously, he’s very much involved in the type of work we’re trying to do and he can help the players of the field with the messages.”
