You must be delighted with recent performances. Two successive clean sheets against two teams vying for Champions League positions?
I’m very pleased with the performances, as are the rest of the boys too. To go to those places is tough, so to hold our own is fantastic and everyone is really happy.
Was the game at Villa Park a harder task defensively than the clash at Anfield? There seemed to be more sustained pressure, especially in the second half.
Liverpool put us under a lot of pressure too, maybe in a different way but pressure is pressure at the end of the day so you have to deal with it. We were a bit lucky on a few occasions but I think sometimes you earn your luck just by the way you approach things. We worked hard, and I think we deserved the point based on effort alone.
You dealt with Agbonlahor's pace superbly all afternoon. You must be one of the quickest players at the Club?
To be honest a lot of the lads are quicker than me. We do some tests every now and again and Konchy, Clint and Johnny P are all pretty quick. I was probably thinking more about where the ball was going to go on Saturday and just making sure that I got there first. I did okay against him, but put it this way I wouldn’t like to go up against him in a straight sprint over 50 yards!
The results in November must have injected some real confidence into the squad?
Yeah, definitely, the results have given us a lot of confidence. It’s hard not to be confident when the results are going well. Everyone goes out with a belief in what they are doing. Confidence is pretty high, but we are certainly not over confident. We’re taking one game at a time, because anything can happen, but if you can keep a clean sheet then there’s always a chance you can nick a goal at the other end.
After fending off Torres and Agbonlahor in recent weeks you've got to deal with Robinho this weekend. Are you looking forward to the challenge?
It gets easier doesn’t it! Every week now you come up against someone that is going to challenge you. It’s the League that we play in, and that is the way it is and it is why we try our best and give 100 per cent, because you have to at this level. It’s why we gave it our all at the end of last season, because we want to be playing against the likes of Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester City every week. This will be the first time that I’ve played against Robinho and I’m looking forward to the challenge and I’m sure he will be as difficult as the other strikers.
What sort of strikers do you prefer playing against. A Torres with strength and pace to burn or a slighter player with trickery, like Robinho?
Ideally, somebody who is lazy and doesn’t want to do anything. Although there aren’t too many of them around! They are very different players with different attributes and strengths. I don’t particularly prefer one over the other, every striker in this League is difficult to play against.
A win this weekend could create some breathing space from the bottom half of the table but it still remains incredibly tight. Are you surprised that a gulf hasn't emerged yet?
It’s just the way it has gone. I think over the last couple of seasons you always get spells where the League is tight. I think back to last year and if we had managed to string a run together earlier on then we wouldn’t have been in the position we were in at the end.
Every year this League gets more difficult, and I guess the positions at the moment reflect that. Everyone is taking points of each other and it is tighter than ever. A win would be nice on Saturday, because we do need to get a bit of space between us and those around us. I’m not surprised it’s so tight because outside the top five at the moment everyone can beat anyone.
