Erik, you made a vital contribution to Fulham's Great Escape last season. You must have been delighted to have played an intergal role after signing for the Club in January?
"I was more satisfied we kept out Premier League status, that was the most important thing. I love to score in the Premier League - it’s always something I’ll try to do.
"The goal against Birmingham was obviously a great moment because it sealed the game. I was just happy that it gave us a chance for the last game; I just wanted to make a contribution."
The pressure must have been immense - how did you manage to relax after the game?
It was always in our mind thinking about relegation in the last 7 or 8 games, but after the game we just let it all out. It was a great feeling. Afterwards I just went out with my family for something to eat after the game. I have to say the support we got, not just at Fratton Park, for the last 5 or 6 games, it was amazing."
You summer break must have been extra special after such a positive end to the season?
I thought about that before the last game, if we won it would be a great vacation and it was! I went back to see my family and just chilled out really and then we had a few days in Rome.
You escaped relegation in Norway with Viking FK under Roy Hodgson a few seasons ago - how do the two experiences compare?
It was more difficult at Fulham because we were always as the bottom of the table, but with Viking we were going up and down in the table and there we sealed it two games before the end of the season. At Fulham it was different - we sealed it on the last day - In the last 15 minutes!
Has there been much chat in pre-season amongst the players about last season's escape?
It’s in the past now. We're just focusing on the coming season coming - it’s a big challenge and I hope we don’t make it so nerve-racking this time around. I think we’ve got a good squad of players. I think we can do better.
How's pre-season training? And what can you tell us about the new boys?
Today [Tuesday] was the first session of ball playing. So it was fun, but the other days its just fitness and just getting yourself ready to go, and that’s important as well. I’ve seen Schwarzer and Gera play but I don’t know too much about Stockdale and Andranik, but obviously if Roy picks them to play for Fulham then they obviously have quality.
Have you set yourself any targets for next season?
No, no I will have to see how pre-season goes and then we will see from there.
Off the field how are you adapting to life in England?
Very well. We're expecting our third child so it’s exciting times.
Looking over the fixture list for next season are there any games that stand out for you?
Obviously the Manchester United and the Arsenal games at the start of the season. They will be special but we are going to need to be ready for when the season starts.
