With the blessing of Fulham Manager Roy Hodgson, Erik Nevland remains in South West London this week for a very special reason.
As Nevland arrived for training at Motspur Park on Wednesday morning he explained his absence from Fulham's pre-season tour of Korea.
"My wife’s expecting our child so I’m staying at home with her this week in case anything happens."
Nevland is enjoying a fruitful pre-season, with two goals in two games and has been impressed with Roy Hodgson's summer acquisitions whom Nevland hopes will benefit the Club's form next season.
"We played two good games against Southend and Celtic, winning both of them. I managed to score in both of them so it’s been an alright start to say the least. The first half against Celtic was very good but it won’t come that easy all the time so it’s crucial we always work hard.
"Roy knows what type of players he wants in the team and the new guys have settled in quickly. The squad is looking good and we just have to make sure we have a much better season than last year."
Nevland struck up an impressive partnership with summer signing Bobby Zamora against Celtic and their opposing styles clearly complement each others play, as Nevland explained.
"It went well and he’s easy to play with. He’s a different type of striker to me and sometimes it’s easier to play with a front man who is different from you. Sometimes you can make the same runs as players who are similar to you and we didn’t do that so it was good.
