Kasey Keller was honoured for his 100th international cap, gained in June of last year, before the US’ goalless draw against Argentina. The match was played in front of the largest crowd to ever watch the US play on home soil, 78,682.
Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson were once again involved in the action but both were replaced, on 61 minutes and 74 minutes respectively.
Dempsey produced a good scoring opportunity in a tight first half when his shot was deflected by Gabriel Heinze and spun past the left hand post.
Eddie Johnson also came close when he was able to get his head to a Dempsey cross, unfortunately his effort went straight into Roberto Abbondanzieri's hands.
Speaking after the match, Dempsey looked back on a series of tough friendlies.
"We're playing against some of the best competition that's out there - Spain, England and Argentina,” he said. “I think that the goals will come, but it will always be tough to score lots of goals against teams like that.
“The games have been tough. It had been even more difficult playing in our opponents' back yards. We came here tonight and put in a decent performance. Getting a tie against the No. 1-ranked team is a good feeling.
“We'd have liked to score some goals in these games, but now we look towards Barbados and I think we've prepared ourselves as well as we could. We just need to go into that game next week with the same mindset that we showed these past few weeks and I think things will take care of themselves."
