Paul Konchesky praised the spirit within the Fulham camp this week before thanking the fans for their outstanding show of support last weekend. The defender also spoke of his relief at finally having the upper hand going into the last game of the season on Sunday.
"The boys have got great spirit and we never ever give up. We’ve shown that in the last two games and hopefully we can carry that through to the final game of the season on Sunday.
“We came out last weekend all guns blazing, we started fast, got in their faces and carried that on for 90 minutes. It was great fitness from the lads.
“At Man City we came back from two-nil down to win and that obviously gives you great confidence. We took that into our game last Saturday and hopefully that victory will again help us this weekend.
“It’s the first time we’ve been out of the bottom three in five months so when you look at that it’s a great relief. Hopefully we can take the game on Sunday by the scruff of the neck and start like we did last weekend.
"I don’t think we could have done it without the fans on Saturday – they were brilliant. They got right behind us from start to finish and drove us on.”
The magnitude of Sunday's game is certainly not lost on Konchesky and the defender noted the danger Pompey pose before expressing his desire to leave nothing to chance by taking all three points.
“They’ve got great players so it doesn’t matter who they play. People like Defoe can’t play in the Cup Final so we know he’ll probably play and what a great player he is.
“It’s going to be the biggest day in the careers of a lot of players on Sunday. We know we need to win and we’ve got to work on what we need to do and go from there.
"As long as we get our result we haven’t got to worry about anything else. We know we need to win the game.”
