Surviving in Style

Monday 12th May 2008

MurphyAfter the euphoric post-match celebrations at Fratton Park, Whites hero Danny Murphy paid tribute to Manager Roy Hodgson. Fulham have played their way out of trouble in every sense of the word and Murphy clearly admires the style and manner in which Hodgson has guided the Club to safety.

“It’s been a fantastic few months for us. I think that we’ve won four in the last five to get us out of it and we’ve been well written off. No one gave us a chance. It's a great feeling and a wonderful achievement. It’s wonderful and something that probably won’t sink in for a little while.

"The style of football that we’ve played has been excellent considering the pressure we’ve been under. The Manager deserves credit for that. When we were two-nil down at Man City he said, ‘keep playing’. I think at one stage during that game we were down, relegated. We stuck with it, kept playing and won.

"I think after Man City game we really believed and after the Birmingham result last week we’ve come here [Portsmouth] with great confidence and deserved it today [Sunday].

"I think it’s a big factor Jimmy and Brian coming back later in the season and the Manager encouraging us to play more football than we were earlier in the season. All these things add to the team’s confidence. For the last few weeks we’ve not played like a team in the relegation zone, we’ve played higher than that."
