Positive Performance

Monday 6th October 2008

MurphyFollowing Saturday's Premier League clash at the Hawthorns Danny Murphy expressed his disappointed at whilst stating that he remains confident the Club will soon start earning the points their recent performances have deserved.

"We conceded from a scrappy set play which is disappointing because we pride ourselves on our set plays," Murphy explained. "Everyone was very flat and disappointed but we've got to try and take some positives from the last few games.

"The positives are that we've performed reasonably well, granted not well enough to get us a result, but it's not as if we're playing badly and it's a fine line at this level between wins, draws and losses.

"On Saturday I had a shot that just went wide of the post, Clint had a header just over the bar and in the Blackburn game Robinson made two unbelievable saves from Andy Johnson. Against West Ham we had that strange five minutes when we went two nil down and down to ten men after dominating the game.

"It's been a strange few games. We can't get too down and the most important thing is we don't lose confidence. Even though we've lost a few games recently, you saw on Saturday we knocked the ball around well and played with confidence. A bit more patience and quality in the final third and we'll be ok because we are getting the ball up there. We are making chances but we're not getting the rub of the green.

"Scoring at home and making chances at home is always that bit easier because you've got the fans behind you. Away from home we've done ok without putting the ball in the back of the net and I'm sure it's something the Manager and the players will be working hard to address because we all know if you don't score goals you don't win games."

One player who will return to the fold for Fulham's next home game against Sunderland a week on Saturday| is striker Andy Johnson. Whilst agreeing that Fulham missed the striker's quality at the Hawthorns on Saturday Murphy pointed out that Fulham have the quality throughout their squad to cope with such absences this season.

"You'll always miss his pace and his threat. He's got that great ability to run behind defences and scare people to death. In the games he's played for us the oppoenets centre half has given us a bit more space because they're so scared of his pace.

"That's football though and you can't hide behind the fact that one or two players are missing. Maybe we weren't at full strength but we're a Premier League side and we've got a squad to cope with those situations and we won't be using that as an excuse for losing on Saturday."
