Fulham Football Club has today announced the signing of Giles Barnes from Derby County, on a loan deal until the end of the season with an option of a permanent transfer.
The 20-year-old midfielder progressed through Derby County’s Youth team and has represented England at Under 18 and Under 19 level. He signed his first professional contract with Derby County on his 17th birthday in 2005 and it didn’t take long for the talented midfielder to break into the first team.
His impressive performances for the Rams earned him a Championship player of the month award in March 2007 and this was followed up with Derby County’s Young Player of the Season award.
An injury, sustained in Derby’s play-off final at Wembley in May 2007, meant that Barnes’ first Premier League start wasn’t until October. He scored his first Premier League goal against Newcastle United in December, 2007.
