Andy JohnsonFulham manager Roy Hodgson was full of praise for Andy Johnson on Saturday after the striker netted both of Fulham's FA Cup Third Round goals.

"I was pleased that Andy got two more goals to add to his tally," said Hodgson. "He's now scored six goals and provoked two penalties which Danny Murphy has scored from. Had he taken those penalties he'd be up to eight goals in sixteen games - that's a fantastic record and that's why we bought him."

"He's doing very well for us. He's small in stature but he's so competitive. He makes life very difficult and he'd be horrible to play against as a centre back. I thought his partnership with Erik Nevland at the end was very promising because Bobby Zamora had a problem with his back on Saturday so he wasn't at his best.

Nevland has had to wait patiently for opportunities to impress this season but showed on Saturday why he became such a favourite with the Fulham faithful during the Club's Great Escape.

"When Nevland went on we showed that we have another Andy Johnson," Hodgson explained. "He hasn't quite got Andy's electric pace but he has got that incredible tenacity and he's a nasty player to play against because he competes. Even though the guy against him looks bigger and stronger he'll be there trying to get his head on the ball. I'm disappointed he didn't score because he's a good technician and I'd of put money on him scoring the chance that he blasted over the bar."
