The Fulham team take the two hour flight to Melbourne on Saturday morning (Australian time) for the clash later that day against Australia’s biggest club, Melbourne Victory.
‘The Victory’ are the most successful club in the short history of the A League, having won four major domestic titles in as many seasons. Having been founded in 2003, they are the current reigning champions of the treble of the Premiership, Challenge Cup and the Championship.
Their biggest names include Archie Thompson (pictured with Mark Schwarzer), the A League’s record scorer, and also the joint record holder for the number of goals scored in an international match (13 in a 31-0 World Cup qualifying win for Australia over American Samoa in 2001), former Manchester City, Hull and Notts County striker Danny Alsopp, ex-Crystal Palace, Wolves, Rangers and Millwall defender Kevin Muscat, and Costa Rican playmaker Carlos Hernandez.
For the Whites, Adrian Leijer will be looking forward to lining up against his old club, whilst Danny Murphy, Seol Ki-Hyeon and Toni Kallio will all be hopeful of shaking off knocks sustained in the physical battle with Gold Coast United on Wednesday. Chris Smalling will also require a late fitness test on an ankle injury he picked up in training, as Roy Hodgson will expect his troops to have progressed somewhat since their first run out of the pre-season.
The game kicks-off in the impressive 56,347 capacity Etihad Stadium at 7.30pm local time, 10:30am BST.
