Billy McKinlay’s side are back in action on Tuesday evening as they take on West Ham’s Reserves at Motspur Park.
Two weeks ago the Development Squad secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 success at Portsmouth. The game, played in torrential rain at Havant & Waterlooville’s Westleigh Park, saw Fulham win comfortably after gaining an early lead through Tony Kallio before the impressive Michael Uwezu doubled the lead after 27 minutes.
Last season Fulham’s Development Squad did the double over West Ham winning the corresponding fixture at Motspur Park 4-1 and gaining a 2-0 victory at Upton Park.
West Ham have won just once in their first five games this season albeit an impressive 6-0 thrashing of Birmingham City in September. Since beating the Blues they have played out a goalless draw at home with Wolves, but suffered defeat in their last two games at Portsmouth and in their most recent encounter against Chelsea going down 4-1 at Griffin Park.
The Hammers are famous for producing quality players through their academy system which over the last decade has seen the likes of Joe Cole, Michael Carrick and Rio Ferdinand emerge to become England internationals.
The current side has some impressive youngsters, one of whom is striker Zavon Hines. After gaining experience on loan at Coventry in 2007-08 he has emerged this season featuring in a number of senior squads. Hines is the Hammers’ leading reserve scorer having bagged himself a hat-trick against Birmingham.
Another youngster to impress in recent seasons is midfielder Junior Stanislas who has also been involved in first team action this season. The former England youth international played nine Barclays Premier League games last season scoring twice, while also enjoying a successful loan spell at Southend.
The match Kicks-Off at 7pm and a report will be available online shortly after the final whistle.
