With the freezing weather conditions this week, some could have been forgiven for thinking that Fulham’s training schedule would have been adversely affected.
But thanks to the sterling work from the groundstaff at Fulham’s Motspur Park Training Ground, the Whites had been able to prepare as usual, despite the snow.
Their hard work has drawn much praise and Zoltan Gera was certainly grateful for their efforts.
“The groundstaff have been working very hard for us recently,” Gera told fulhamfc.com. “They cleared the pitch so it was excellent. They’ve done a fantastic job for us and we’ve trained on perfect pitches because of them.”
However, the overnight fall on Wednesday proved too much to clear, resulting in the team training in the air dome for a day.
“We were training in the dome on Wednesday,” Gera explained. “It was good but if any of the players had problems with the knees or ankles, they needed to take it easy because indoor pitches are much harder. But it’s a good facility for us.”
Whilst Gera’s main role in the team this season has been on either side of the midfield, the Hungarian international most recently saw a good spell of action playing in behind Bobby Zamora as a second, deep-lying striker. And as he explained, it was certainly a position he enjoyed playing in.
“I feel comfortable playing just behind the striker,” he said. “I love to play everywhere on the pitch, but I want to score goals, get in front of goal and get chances. I think I can play well in midfield or behind the front man. For me the one important thing is playing in the team.
“It’s easy to play with Bobby. I know what type of movements he makes and you just need to realise, learn and watch the way he plays. After that it’s easy.
“AJ’s a very important player for us too. The team can use his pace to stretch the opposition so we have more space. So he is also a very good player to have in the team.”
The Whites make the trip to Ewood Park this Sunday to face Blackburn Rovers and following the postponement of the Portsmouth game, Gera is eager to get back on the pitch.
“After the bad result against Stoke, we wanted to show our character and play again. But we missed that game. We need to get some points away from home against Blackburn but it will be a very difficult game.”
