England kicked off their U19 European Championship campaign against Austria at Stade du Hazé, Flers, on Sunday and Academy graduate Matthew Briggs certainly played his part in England’s crucial 3-2 win.
Frank Nouble’s first half brace put England in control with Briggs setting up the striker for his second of the evening. Briggs’ chip forward after 29 minutes found Nouble, who fired a left footed shot past Austria’s keeper, Philip Petermann.
Briggs was replaced after 56 minutes and will now be hoping to feature in England’s second game of the tournament on Wednesday (KO 5pm) when the Young Lions take on Holland at Stade Henry Jeanne, Bayeux.
