Fulham’s pre-season campaign got off to a flying start on Wednesday night with a 5-0 win over Brentford and Simon Davies was clearly impressed with his side’s fitness levels after a lengthy summer break.
“It’s always good to get the first one out of the way and we’re just trying to get our fitness back as a squad," Davies explained. “It’s always nice to get a win and it’s the first step towards the new season.
“We had quite a long break and I’m really looking forward to the new season now. All the lads have come back in good condition and kept themselves fit over the summer. I thought everyone looked sharp against Brentford and there’s definitely a hunger there to kick on.
“First and foremost this season it’s about Premier League survival – that is the be all and end all really. After that it’s about getting as close to mid-table as possible.”
Davies is certainly looking forward to the appointment of a new manager at the Club ahead of the 2010/11 campaign and the Welsh international took the time to wish former manager Roy Hodgson well as he embarks on a new challenge with Liverpool.
“There was a lot of speculation over the summer and when it did happen I don’t think anyone was too surprised and I wish him [Roy Hodgson] well. He’s a great manager and he did great for the Club. We can only wish him the best.
“We’re all excited about a new manager coming in and hopefully it will be this week or early next week.”
