After completing his first season in English football, David Elm has spoken positively about the campaign ahead and how he wants to make a difference.
The 27-year-old striker joined Fulham in September 2009 from Swedish side Kalmar FF, and made 16 appearances in all competitions in what was a fantastic year for the Club.
He told Fulhamfc.com: “It was great to be part of what was such an incredible season for the Club. It was my first season in English football and it just went so well.
“Having made my debut in the Carling Cup, I had to wait a little while before making my next appearance, playing in the 3-1 defeat of Accrington in the FA Cup.
“I was then involved in a number of league games, scoring my first goal for Fulham against Burnley – which was a fantastic moment for me. I also played in the UEFA Europa League knock-out stages too, playing in both games with Shakhtar Donetsk which was one of the results of the season.
“Competition for places is very strong at this Club, and there are some wonderful forward players here so it has been difficult. Hopefully I can play a part this coming season, one in which I hope the team will see similar success.”
Elm has featured in all four of the Whites’ pre-season fixtures, scoring in our 5-0 defeat of Brentford.
“Pre-season has been very good, having joined last September, the league season was already underway so I missed that preparation with the team,” he said.
“Of course, it was great to return to Sweden for the games we had there against Halmstad and Malmo – two very good teams that I have faced a few times over the years.
“I was given a good reception, which was nice. It was a good trip and although we drew both games it was still a very worthwhile experience. It’s always nice to win, but at this stage it really is all about our fitness and I have to say that is very high as a result.
“The squad looks good for the start of the new season, which is fast approaching now.”
Fulham travel to Portsmouth on Saturday for their penultimate pre-season fixture, two weeks prior to the start of the new campaign which will see the Whites make the trip to Bolton Wanderers.
“I’d like to be involved in Saturday’s game having played a part so far, but that’s not my decision,” he added.
“I feel that I learned a lot over the last year and I feel very positive about the new season. I would definitely like to play my part, but there are a lot of good players here and competition for places is very strong.
“But that’s a good thing because we’re competing in one of the best leagues in the world.”
