Aspire 2 Move is a locally-run project delivered by the Fulham Football Club Foundation, targeting young women (between 12 and 21), aiming to involve them in positive activities and get them physically active through dance and sport.
Last season, the Fulham Aspire 2 Move football team entered the national Futsal (South American five-a-side football) regional tournament which was organised for girls aged 14-16.
The girls met some fierce competition on the day but were victorious, winning 3-0 in the final, ultimately qualifying for the National Finals.
Teams from the North West, East Midlands, Wales as well as the Fulham Football Club Foundation Aspire 2 Move team from London competed for the honour of becoming the StreetGames National Futsal champions. The final was hosted at Manchester United FC’s prestigious Carrington Road training ground.
The Aspire 2 Move girls team reached the final and beat the Wales One team 2-0, to be crowned girls National Futsal winners for the 09/10 season.
The team had an invaluable experience and deserved recognition for all of their hard work.
Jemima Morris, ProActive West London Partnership Development Manager, commented:
“It was great to see so many girls participating in Futsal and getting involved at a regional and national level. Taking part and copmpeting in sport really helps to build confidence and self esteem, particularly in vulnerable young people and Fulham Football Club is doing some great work with girls to provide them with many sports opportunities.”
