Fulham go into Thursday evening's UEFA Europa League tie against Juventus knowing that with an away goal in the bag, overturning the first leg's defeat is not beyond the realms of possibility. And looking ahead to the big game, Chris Baird was in confident mood.
"The first match was a very tough game for us, we knew about the quality they had and they showed it in the first leg," he said. "But I still think we've got a great chance bringing them back to our place. We'll be up for the game and we're confident that we can get a result and keep going in this competition."
Fulham conceded two goals in the Stadio Olimpico di Torino before Dickson Etuhu's deflected strike found the back of the net. The Whites pressed hard following the goal and Juventus certainly looked to be on the back foot until David Trezeguet restored their two-goal cushion deep into first-half stoppage time.
"It was nice to get back to two-one after what happened for their goals," reflected Baird. "Conceding that goal before half-time knocked us back a bit. But in all fairness, we came out in the second-half, played a lot better and created a few chances. If we can continue that, especially with the game being at home, I think we've got a great chance.
"Coming to places like Craven Cottage is intimidating for teams like Juve. We're looking forward to the game. We know the threat they're going to pose to us but it's another great game to play in and hopefully we'll get the right result for Fulham."
With Danny Murphy and Jonathan Greening both suspended for Thursday's tie, Roy Hodgson could elect to move Baird back into the central midfield role he occupied with great success on past occasions - a switch that Baird would be happy to go along with.
"I've been all over the park this year but I've enjoyed every minute of it," he said. "My confidence is high and hopefully I can keep that going. I'm really enjoying playing at the moment and hopefully the fans can see that."
