After playing an integral role in Fulham’s historic 4-1 win over Juventus in the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League, Stephen Kelly admitted he is "gutted” to be missing tonight’s clash with Wolfsburg through injury, but the Republic of Ireland international confirmed he will be joining the Cottage faithful in backing the Whites at the Cottage this evening.
"I'm gutted I'm going to miss out this evening," said Kelly on Thursday afternoon. “It's the first match I will have missed of this campaign through injury. I missed the match against Roma through suspension but apart from that I've played in every European game. I'm really disappointed to be missing out tonight after the fantastic result against Juventus.
"The Juventus match at home was a highlight for me personally and probably for most people - to beat a team of that stature in the manner we did and to make progress to this stage of the competition is fantastic. I'm sure the atmosphere tonight will be just as fantastic.
"Tonight is a huge night at the Cottage against Wolfsburg and I'm disappointed not be involved. I received a knock against Tottenham and haven’t been able to recover from it although I've been trying to get back from it all week. I'll be keeping on top of it, working with the physios and hopefully I will be back for Sunday but if not it will be soon after.
“I'm going to be heading down to the Cottage to support the lads. I'm going to be down there giving them my full support and cheer the lads on from the stand. It's a big game and it won't be won or lost tonight as it's over two legs. I'm sure that the Team will put on a really good performance tonight and hopefully we will perform like we have done on the European nights so far.”
