Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has been named the Barclays Player of the Month for February 2010.
Schwarzer played an integral role in securing an unbeaten month for Fulham, recording 4 clean sheets in 5 Barclays Premier League league games.
Aside from his heroics in the League, Schwarzer's performance in cauldron that was the Donbass Arena in the Ukraine deserves special mention.
Under a torrent of pressure against Shakhtar Donetsk, Schwarzer pulled off several world class saves to help Fulham defeat last year's UEFA Cup winners.
Schwarzer is the first Fulham player to receive the award since Louis Saha in August 2001. Speaking at Fulham's Motspur Park Training Ground on Friday afternoon Schwarzer was clearly delighted to have won the Barclays Player of the Month Award.
"I'm still a little bit shocked to have won the award," said Schwarzer. ”I think it's been a tremendous achievement from everybody at the Club over the last five to six weeks.
"No one could have imagined it would have gone so well over that period of time and I think any number of players in the Team could have won the award.
"I feel very honoured and I've just found out I'm the first Australian to win it. I'm glad to accept an award on behalf of the other players who have contributed towards my performances week-in, week-out.
"I think we've defended very well and we've gone back to how we defended consistently well last season. In February we were outstanding all over the field from front to back and that's what has been the key for Fulham Football Club. We've been able to work our way up the table and through various competitions. Overall so far it's been fantastic."
