Aaron Hughes last week spoke of the respect that he and his team-mates have for Fulham Chairman Mohamed Al Fayed, one of the most clearly dedicated and committed club owners in football.
It’s now almost 14 years since Mr. Al Fayed first invested in what, at the time, was a small club just escaping the bottom tier of the Football League.
In the years since, he has overseen a remarkable rise which has so far brought 10 consecutive seasons in the Premier League, not to mention a European Final.
“He occasionally comes in the dressing room after a big result to congratulate everyone and thank them for their hard work. You can tell he loves it and he’s so passionate about the Club,” said Aaron.
“I think what he’s done here - long before I came - in taking the Club to 10 successive seasons in the Premier League is fantastic. A lot of that is down to him and his backing and vision.
“He’s not let the Club run away and become high profile and over the top. The core values are here still and that starts at the very top from him.”
And experienced defender Hughes also explained that the Chairman’s drive plays a role in inspiring the Fulham team to push for success.
“The Club is something he’s very proud of, we’re well aware of that and it’s something we respect. That’s why we go out every weekend and try and do everything we can to get results, because we know it’s a big thing for him and the fans.
“Occasionally he pops into the Training Ground. Perhaps not for any particular reason, but just to show he still cares, and everyone understands that.
“It’s a nice touch and it shows how much passion he has for the Club.”
