Fulham team-mates Clint Dempsey and Mousa Dembele did not get the chance to play against each other on Tuesday night when the USA met Belgium in Brussels.
Whilst Dempsey played the full 90 minutes, Dembele was an unused substitute for Belgium. It was the hosts that claimed victory, with Nicolas Lombaert's 55th minute goal securing a 1-0 win.
USA star Dempsey was playing his first competitive match under new manager Jurgen Klinsmann and despite the loss the Fulham man was in positive mood as he looked forward to continuing his international football education under the German legend.
“We played some good soccer at times," said Dempsey after the match. "We responded well after the goal and we were always looking like we were going to get the next one to equalise.
"We were unlucky not to end the game 1-1 and I don't know why [Maurice Edu's] goal was called back. We have to keep moving forward, keep working on things.
It's my first game with the new coach and I'm looking forward to getting more time in training to work with him so I can help the team more.”
