Martin Jol is looking forward to once again enjoying the luxury of having a natural striker in his match day squad when Fulham entertain Stoke City at Craven Cottage on Saturday (KO 3pm).|
The Fulham Manager has watched new signing Pavel Pogrebnyak in training and has no qualms about naming the Russian international in Saturday’s squad.
“He’s available for selection tomorrow,” said Jol during Friday afternoon’s press conference. “He arrived on Wednesday and made a good impression so that was good. Everybody’s looking after him because it’s never easy to start in the Premier League. I feel that mentally he is up for it and he looks fit.
“I hope that he can bring us goals. That is always important for any team because we’ve got good qualities around him; Clint Dempsey, Mousa Dembele and Bryan Ruiz are all capable of doing that but you always need a striker to probably be the main top scorer. For the last couple of years Clint was our top scorer and that was good but it’s not ideal.”
But despite the welcome addition of Pogrebnyak, four members of Jol's First Team squad are unavailable for selection this weekend.
“Steve Sidwell is still out and Philippe Senderos has a groin problem so he won’t be involved in the next couple of weeks,” explained Jol. “Andrew Johnson is doing well, hopefully he can be available next week with his groin and of course Zdenek Grygera is out but everyone else is fine.”
