MEDIA
The Media play an extremely important role in the world of football. Football has become one of the most popular sports of our time and it is with the help of the media that this has happened.
Without television, radio and the written press we would not be kept so up to date on the important issues affecting the sport, as well as news on our Club.
The Premier league has various deals with television broadcasters to promote Premiership football.
Each Premiership Club receives a basic payout of approximately £6.3 million per season, plus an additional amount which is reflected on the amount of appearances the Club has on Sky and the BBC.
The first Sky television agreement was worth £191 million over five seasons.
The next contract, negotiated to start from the 1997/98 season, rose to £670 million over four seasons. The Premier League’s current £1.1 billion deal with Sky runs over the course of three seasons from August 2001. Sky screened 66 live matches in 2003/2004 season and 40 pay-per-view matches, offered live on satellite and cable.
The Premiership Plus Channel was born from the FA’s decision to make an additional set of matches available each year on a pay-per-view basis. In February 2001 the Premier League announced a record overseas TV deal. This included the rights to a group made up of various broadcasters such as Octagon CSI, Sport + and TWI, for a total of £178 m up to 2004. Global interest continues to grow, with viewers in 162 countries and in excess of 40,000 hours of Premiership Football were broadcasted internationally last season.
SPONSORSHIP
The sponsorship contracts proved to be an exceptionally good deal, as Richard Scudamore (Chief Executive of the FA Premier League) explains:
“ … a great opportunity for both the FA Premier League and sponsors Barclaycard to build upon each others strength and growing reputation throughout the world.”
Barclays are committed to making a real and lasting contribution to all levels of football in this country.
They have exclusive special offers for fans with the Premiership Barclaycard, and their commitment to grass-roots sport via their ground breaking Barclays Spaces for Sports community programmes, demonstrate their dedication to not only Finance but also to Football.

As title sponsor Barclays continue to improve. They provide monthly awards for players, managers and fans and give away match tickets. Barclays are not strangers to working within the Football industry. They have a strong history dating back over 100 years as bankers to the Football Association. They are also the official bank of the F.A Premier League as well as 50% of the Clubs and 25% of their players.
The money generated from the broadcast and sponsorship deals has helped transform the F.A. Premier League into the best domestic league competition in the world.
Individual Clubs shirt sponsorship deals can range between £250,000 to £10m a season, depending on the Clubs profile and success.
