Despite being less well known than their rivals Juventus, 'Il Toro' are still one of Italy's most successful club teams. Last season they finished in a similar position to The Whites, just above the relegation zone in 15th place in the league.
They have 7 Serie A (the Italian Premier League) titles, and have won the Coppa Italia (their FA Cup) five times. They also reached the final of the UEFA Cup in 1992, although they lost to Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam.
Torino's most successful spell came over 60 years ago, when they won the Italian championship 5 times in a row. However, disaster struck in 1949, when almost the entire team were killed in a terrible airplane crash, which happened when the team were returning from a game in Lisbon.
Like Fulham, 'Il Toro' play in a famous old stadium. It's called the 'Stadio Olimpico', and was built to host matches played in the 1934 FIFA World Cup. The stadium was also the setting for the opening & closing ceremony of the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
They have many famous former players, including the Turkish international striker Hakan Sukur. Dennis Law, who was once a big star for both Manchester United & Scotland, became one of the first major British footballers to play abroad when he joined them in the 1960s.
In 1992 the Torino winger Gianluigi Lentini became the most expensive player in the world when he signed for AC Milan for 13 million pounds. Pele also used to play in their distinctive maroon jerseys – Abedi Pele! He was a tricky Ghanaian forward who used to play in the 1980s.
The city of Turin is in the north west of Italy, and stands on the banks of the Po River. Nearly 1 million people live there, which makes it about seven times smaller than London!
Turin is very famous for cars, and international companies like Fiat and Lancia are based there. The city is also the home of a famous religious artefact called the Turn Shroud, and it was the birthplace of the chocolate bar! Turin is also twinned with Glasgow, the home of one of our other pre-season opponents Celtic.
