Fulham wasted little time in stamping their authority on proceedings when, after just two minutes, Damien Duff stung the palms of Sergei Pareiko when he cut in from the right side of the Wisla penalty area and tried his luck from 18 yards.

That chance proved to be a precursor for what was to follow just minutes later. Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson combined well, allowing Johnson to sprint clear and square the ball for Duff who made no mistake with a well taken finish.

But the Fulham lead was short-lived as Andraz Kirm’s shot deflected twice en route to the back of Mark Schwarzer’s net on nine minutes. In reply, Andrew Johnson had the ball in the net shortly after the restart; however his effort was ruled out for offside. Nonetheless, the Fulham striker continued to pressure his opponents and created confusion in the Wilsa defence when he dispossessed Kew Jaliens in a dangerous area and fired a ball across goal.

As the first-half progressed Wisla began growing in confidence, with Andraz Kirm in particular looking lively going forward. Fulham soon regained the advantage and it was through a spectacular volley from Andrew Johnson in the 30th minute. Following a spell of Fulham pressure, the ball fell to Danny Murphy in a wide position – the Captain’s low delivery into the area found Johnson, whose fiercely struck volley blazed past a helpless Pareiko.

A mazy run from Clint Dempsey culminated in the American international attempting an audacious chip, which just clipped the top of the Wisla goal frame just before the interval. 

Wisla made a good start to the second-half, putting the Fulham back line under pressure almost immediately. A cutting Fulham counter-attack on 52 minutes saw Bobby Zamora demonstrate good strength to hold off his marker before handing the shooting opportunity to Damien Duff, whose shot was well held by Pareiko.

Fulham further extended their lead with a goal straight from the training ground on 57 minutes. Having won a free-kick in a dangerous position, Danny Murphy rolled a pass into the feet of Zamora whose layoff found Johnson in behind the Wisla defence. The Fulham striker took his total for the evening to two with a delicate chip over Pareiko from close range.

The goal appeared to break the spirit of the Wisla players, as Fulham were subsequently afforded more time and space. Danny Murphy made way for Steve Sidwell just after the hour mark, rounding off a typically influential performance from the skipper.

Fulham's final two changes of the game for Fulham saw Kerim Frei replace Bobby Zamora and Pajtim Kasami come on in place of Andrew Johnson. 

Steve Sidwell made it four for Fulham on 79 minutes after his header was well saved by Pareiko, only for Sidwell to follow up and lash the ball home from two yards. 

The Whites continued to maintain control of proceedings into the closing stages – restricting Wisla to speculative long range efforts.
