Antti Niemi

Niemi joined Fulham in a two and-a-half year deal in January 2006.

The Finnish International joined Southampton in August 2002, and quickly established himself as the stalwart of the Saints' defence. Previous clubs include HJK Helsinki and FC Copenhagen, prior to a move to Scotland where he played for both Glasgow Rangers and latterly Hearts, where he was voted the club's player of the year for the 2000/2001 season, before his move to Southampton.

Having played a record 66 times for Finland, Niemi is best remembered for almost single-handedly keeping Germany at bay in Gelsenkirchen in 2001, thus helping England qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2002.

Antti slotted in straight away and made a good impression from the outset with his commanding displays. Despite injury restricting his appearances since his move in January, Niemi was back in goal towards the end of the 05/06 season and the keeper once again showed his obvious talent with a string of fine saves.
