Originally from Arlington Heights in, Chicago, Illinois, Brian McBride arrived from Columbus Crew of the MLS in January 2004. While with Crew he was a seven-time MLS All-Star and the side’s all-time leading scorer with 50 goals in 137 games.
An international star – and widely recognised as the best header of the ball in America – McBride played a starring role in the 2002 World Cup where he scored the USA’s winning goals against Portugal and Mexico on route to the Quarter Finals. He will be eager to make a similar impact at this Summer’s tournament as he approaches 100 international caps.
He made his debut for the Whites against Tottenham in January 2004, within eight minutes of his second half appearance as a substitute, scored the winner in the 2-1 victory at Loftus Road. His spectacular goal against West Ham in the FA Cup Fifth Round Replay at Upton Park that season was also a contender for the Goal of The Season award.
His impressive performances and wholehearted commitment saw McBride earn Fulham’s Player of the Season award for 2005/06 and a place in the 2006 US World Cup squad.
