The Northern Ireland international was a versatile squad player during the 2008-09 campaign, filling various defensive roles when required and has performed admirably in central midfield this season.
Baird was signed during the summer of 2007 following an outstanding season with Southampton, a year which saw him named the Saints’ Player of the Season for his impressive displays at centre-back.
Valued by the Manager, Baird made his first start of the 2008-09 season in the Club’s Boxing Day draw with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane coming in for the injured Brede Hangeland.
And in the Norwegian international’s absence Baird coped commendably, with an impeccable performance alongside fellow countryman Aaron Hughes making a number of vital interceptions.
When the Whites travelled to the Emirates in February, Baird was again included in the starting line-up, selected at right-back in the absence of the suspended John Pantsil. He would once again put in another superb defensive display.
This season Baird has come to the fore and has been a regular in the heart of Fulham's midfield in recent months. A regular for the Northern Ireland national team, Baird has won more than 30 caps since making his debut against Italy in 2003.
