Roy Hodgson reinforced his attacking options during the January 2008 transfer window with the acquisition of Erik Nevland. The striker signed for the Whites on a two-and-a-half year deal from Norwegian side Viking FK.
Nevland has an impressive career goals tally and his striking pedigree was evident during the tail end of the 2007/08 season when his two strikes against Reading and Birmingham fired Fulham towards the safety zone.
The striker's impressive energy levels, sharp turn of pace and instinctive finishing have won him many admirers at the Cottage. Healthy competition in attack has meant Nevland's opportunities to shine were few and far between early on last season but the striker impressed during his substitute appearances. Nevland set up Andy Johnson for the winner during Fulham's Third Round FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday before grabbing a brace as a second half substitute against Portsmouth in late January.
On the 25th April Nevland was introduced as a first half subsitutute against Stoke City at Craven Cottage following an injury to Bobby Zamora. Nevland grabbed all three points for Fulham with a clinical finish, rounding off an impressive Man of the Match performance by the Norwegian.
An injury to Andy Johnson towards the end of the 2008/09 season handed Nevland a place in the starting line-up and striker took his chance well, putting in a number of strong performances.
