Academy graduate Matthew Briggs made history in 2007 by becoming the youngest Premier League player in history when he made his senior debut at the tender age of 16 years and 65 days against Middlesbrough. Briggs was introduced as a second half substitute at the Riverside on the final day of the 06/07 season.
Briggs continued his development in Fulham’s Development Squad under the stewardship of Billy McKinlay and in 2009 signed a new contract with FFC.
Briggs joined Leyton Orient on loan for one month on 15th January 2010 before captaining England's U19 side to a 1-1 draw against Holland in Waalwijk at the beginning of March.
The promising defender played his part for the Young Lions in the 2010 European U19 Championships in France and was handed his first start for Fulham on the 25th August as Fulham recorded an emphatic 6-0 win over Port Vale in the Carling Cup.
Briggs' impressive performance at the Cottage included an assist for Zoltan Gera's opening goal of the game. In March 2011, Briggs signed a contract extension keeping him at the Club until the summer of 2014.
After impressing manager Martin Jol during pre-season Briggs has been selected for Fulham's matchday squads for the 2011/12 campaign and recently played in Fulham's UEFA Europa League play-off victory over FC Dnipro at Craven Cottage.
On the 24th August Briggs was named in the England U21 squad ahead of forthcoming games against Azerbaijan and Israel as England bid to qualify for the 2013 UEFA European Under-21 Championship Finals in Israel.
On the 7th February the Club confirmed that Briggs had joined Peterborough United on a one month loan deal.
