The departure of Steve Finnan to Liverpool in the summer of 2003 left Chris Coleman with a vital right back position to fill. Following links with a handful of players, Fulham signed Moritz Volz on loan from Arsenal until January 2004. The German Under 21 international began his career with Shalke 04 of the Bundesliga, but signed for the Gunners as a teenager in August 2000.
A pacey attacking full back, Volz impressed hugely for Fulham during his loan spell leading to a three-year permanent deal during the January 04 transfer window.
Moritz was ever present for Fulham during the first half of the 05/06 Premiership campaign until a broken rib sidelined the young German international in early December, ruling him out until February.
His adventurous attacking play was highlighted as he proved to be a thorn in the side of opposing defences with his intelligent forward runs and ability to deliver menacing crosses.
