A James Beattie brace and second half strike from James McFadden earned Everton a 3-1 victory over Fulham at Goodison Park.

Beattie put Everton ahead from the spot in the 14th minute after he had been brought down by Zat Knight.

And Beattie added a brilliant second for Everton with a 20-yard chip nine minutes before the interval.

James McFadden scored a third with a 30-yard volley after 55 minutes before Collins John scored with a late penalty after he was fouled by Tony Hibbert.

Beattie's penalty gave Everton the lead, the striker sending Tony Warner the wrong way after Knight brought him down as they chased Nuno Valente's pass.

And he almost added a second 10 minutes later when his downward header from Valente's cross beat Warner but was inches wide.

But he was not to be denied as he doubled Everton's advantage with a stroke of genius in the 36th minute.

Fulham appeared in little danger as Tim Cahill laid the ball off to Beattie 20 yards out, but he delivered an instant chip which landed in the top corner.

Everton were in rampant mood, and another wonderful strike gave them their third goal after 55 minutes.

McFadden chested down Beattie's header and the ball sat up invitingly for the Scot to send a perfect 30-yard volley past Warner into the top corner.

Defender Hibbert than almost got his first goal for Everton with a cross that deceived Warner and almost drifted in.

The Cottagers got a late goal back in the 86 minute when Collins John scored from the spot after he was pulled down by Hibbert four minutes from time.
