Despite a late push from the Whites, they couldn't find the equaliser at Hillsborough against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Three headed goals from Ross Wallace deliveries saw Fulham’s three-match winning streak come to an end as the Whites went down to a 3-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Saturday.

The home side started the quicker of the teams as the Whites struggled to cope with the delivery of Ross Wallace, the craft of Forestieri and the physical presence of Atdhe Nuhiu and having survived a couple of early warning signs, the home side went ahead when Wallace’s corner was headed in by Forestieri.

The Whites weathered a couple of further scares before they worked their way into the game and went level when a long range Jamie O’Hara strike flew into the bottom corner.

However, the early problems returned and Carlos Carvalhal’s side went back in front when another Wallace corner was converted, this time by Tom Lees.

The second half started in similar fashion and the home side extended their advantage when a Wallace free kick was headed home by Michael Turner just minutes into the second half.

The Whites pulled themselves back into the game just after the hour mark when Tom Cairney headed in O’Hara’s ball following a good run by Jazz Richards. Fulham continued to press well into the final minutes of the game for the equaliser but were unable to claim a point on the day.

Kit Symons stuck with the same starting eleven that beat Blackburn at the Cottage last Sunday, making two changes on the bench with Sean Kavanagh and Kay Voser replacing the injured Ryan Fredericks and Alexander Kačaniklić. Turner, who was on loan at the Cottage from Norwich City last term, was named in Sheffield Wednesday’s starting XI.

After a minute’s applause in tribute to former Owls’ player Ron Springett, who recently passed away at the age of 80, the game got under way with the Whites kicking towards the Kop in the first half.

It was the home side who almost opened the scoring on three minutes as Wallace crossed to the back post to find Barry Bannan unmarked whose bullet header from close range was superbly tipped over the bar by Andy Lonergan.

The hosts came close again on six minutes after good work by Wallace down the wing earned the Owls a free-kick when he was fouled by James Husband. Their quick free-kick caught the Whites out and the ball found Bannan in space in the area, but his shot went just wide of the post.

The Whites first attack came on nine minutes when a throw-in down the left found Ben Pringle, but his cross went straight into the arms of Kieren Westwood.

But then the home side went in front on 12 minutes after good work from Jack Hunt forced a corner. The corner was whipped in by Wallace and found Forestieri who leapt above his marker to head down low past Lonergan for a goal on his home debut.

Minutes later it was almost two for the home side as Forestieri forced another corner from the left. The corner was superbly whipped in once again and Lonergan misjudged the flight of the ball but thankfully for Kit Symons and his side the Argentinian headed wide this time.

The home bombardment did not stop there. Another corner wasn’t cleared fully and gave Wallace a chance to put the ball into the Whites area again where he found Tom Lees at the back post who headed across goal but could not find a teammate.

There was controversy on the 20 minute mark as the ball was played through to Nuhiu by the influential Forestieri,  with the big striker through on goal he tangled with Richard Stearman but the referee waved play on.

Alex Lopez picked up the first booking of the game moments later for a tug on Ross McCormack giving the Whites a free kick which was taken quickly by O’Hara to Richards, whose cross from the right found Tim Ream at the back post who sliced over the bar.

The Whites again went close on 27 minutes as Cairney cut in from the right and fed Ryan Tunnicliffe just outside of the box, who sent a fierce drive just past the post.

With Fulham growing into the game, they managed to level on the half hour mark. Good interchanges between Pringle and Cairney worked the ball out to Richards whose cross couldn’t be converted by McCormack at the far post but the ball was not cleared properly and O’Hara sent a long range effort into the bottom left corner past the sprawling Westwood.

Wednesday threatened to go back in front minutes later after Lopez played Forestieri in but the Whites defence crowded him out and the ball went out for a goal kick.

They did go back in front seconds later though. Another inswinging ball in from Wallace was met by Lopez but Lonergan superbly tipped over again. However, the corner from Wallace again caused trouble for the Whites defence and found Lees at the back post to head down low through the legs of Lonergan.

The hosts nearly went 3-1 ahead in added time of the first half as Wallace again caused problems down the Fulham left and crossed to Nuhiu who headed just over before the referee brought proceedings to a halt.

Kit Symons made a change at the break with Dan Burn replacing Pringle to help deal with aerial attacks from the home side. Ream switched to left back allowing Husband to move into the midfield. The Owls made a change of their own with Lucas Joao replacing goalscorer Forestieri, who limped off at the break.

The home side made it three on 48 minutes. Substitute Joao won a free kick after being fouled by Burn. Wallace delivered another inswinging free kick into the box that was met by Turner whose header crashed in off the underside of the bar.

Fulham made their second change on 56 minutes with Lasse Vigen Christensen replacing James Husband, with Cairney switching flanks. They then played their final card five minutes later with Cauley Woodrow replacing Moussa Dembélé.

The Whites got back into the game on 66 minutes. After superb work by Richards on the right, he laid the ball off to O’Hara who delivered a beautiful ball into the incoming Cairney who nodded past Westwood to reduce the deficit.

The Owls nearly restored their two goal advantage on 73 minutes when Bannan wriggled his way into a shooting position but he could only find the side netting with his effort.

The Whites were given half a chance with five minutes left on the clock as Westwood came a long way to collect O’Hara’s long ball forward and spilled the ball to Tunnicliffe outside the area, but he could not divert the ball into the net from a tough position.

The Whites were the team on the front foot for the remainder of the game and with six minutes of additional time signalled, they pressed for an equaliser and came within a whisker as Cairney played in Burn who tried to poke the ball past Westwood who denied him.

The Whites threw everything at the Wednesday defence with even Lonergan coming up for a late corner and it was end-to-end stuff in a frantic finish with Wednesday spurning an opportunity on the counter but ultimately the Whites could not find the goal to give them a share of the spoils on the day.
