Premier League Champions Chelsea defeated Fulham 8-2 in a behind closed-doors friendly at their training base in Cobham.

Chelsea defeated Fulham 8-2 at their training ground in Cobham on Saturday afternoon in a behind closed-doors friendly.

Willian netted a first-half hat-trick and there were braces from Loic Remy and Michy Batshuayi as well as a Cesar Azpilicueta penalty.

Fulham scored either side of the break through a deflected Kevin McDonald cross off Azpilicueta and a penalty taken by Stefan Johansen.

Fulham made four changes to the team that faced QPR on Wednesday with David Button, Tom Cairney, McDonald and Johansen replacing Marek Rodak, Matt O’Riley, Lasse Vigen Christensen and Cauley Woodrow who all dropped to the bench.

Lucas Piazon was making a quick return to Cobham having signed for Fulham on loan less than 24-hours before kick-off and the Brazilian was on the Fulham bench.

Chelsea named their strongest side available with Willy Caballero and the back five that won the Premier League in defence and a midfield pair of N’Golo Kanté and Cesc Fabregas, up-front Willian, Michy Batshuayi and Pedro lead the line.

The first chance of the game fell to Chelsea in the eighth minute when Batshuayi fired a low effort across goal, just failing to get his shot on target.

Gary Cahill hit the Fulham crossbar five-minutes later when he leaped highest to head the ball following a Blues corner.

With Chelsea in the ascendancy they punished Fulham when Batshuayi intercepted a stray pass and fed Willian who netted home on 14-minutes.

Batshuayi and willian linked-up again and the Brazilian produced a cultured finish to beat Button three minutes later.

Button then pulled off a fantastic save from close range to deny the Belgian striker who was through on goal.

Ryan Fredericks burned Marcos Alonso for pace but the right-back had his cross blocked for a throw in. Quick thinking however saw Cairney feed McDonald on the edge of the box and it was his cross which was deflected in off Azpilicueta for an own goal on 20-minutes.

It was Fredericks again causing havoc, four minutes later, a finely weighted Cairney pass put the right-back through, his cross beat everyone but Johansen picked it off and from a tight angle and hit the far post with a low drive, Floyd Ayité then fielded the re-bound but his shot was blocked.

Willian was rampaging through again on 29-minutes but Marcelo Djalo tracked back and blocked his cross for a Chelsea corner.

The Willian-Batshuayi link was still working and the pair mustered up a third goal for Chelsea in the 25th minute, this time Willian playing Batshuayi through on goal and despite Button getting a hand to the shot it had enough power to trickle inside the post.

In the 34th minute the Belgian grabbed his second, this time from a quickly-taken long ball from Fabregas after Sone Aluko was judged to have been offside. The striker was through on goal and beat Button with a fine finish.

Just before the break Willian completed a first-half hat-trick after a mazy run across the face of goal he fired in a powerful effort.

The Blues made ten changes at the break including an outing for former Fulham loanee Tomas Kalas.

On 49-minutes Button pulled off a fine save to deny David Luiz with a trademark free-kick from the edge of the box.

Five minutes later Fulham were awarded a penalty after Fredericks was brought down and Johansen netted from the spot with ease to beat replacement Chelsea goalkeeper Eduardo.

Chelsea rallied and quickly replied through French international striker Remy who used some good movement to get away from the Fulham defence and fire in his shot.

Piazon entered the fray on the hour-mark, replacing Aluko who was operating as the main striker, Ayité took his place with Piazon heading out to the left wing.

Woodrow was the next man to come on in the 69th minute, replacing the industrious Cisse.

Azpilicueta netted Chelsea’s seventh goal from the penalty spot after Fikayo Tomori was brought down in the box.

With six minutes left to play O’Riley come on in central midfield replacing goal-scorer Johansen.

The games third penalty was awarded to Chelsea on 86-minutes after Button was deemed to have brought down Remy illegally and the Frenchman didn’t miss the chance to extend Chelsea’s lead.
