Sport in Schools

Fulham FC Foundation has over 20 years experience of delivering sport and education in schools through a highly skilled and reliable workforce.

We passionately believe that providing sport inside and outside of the curriculum is crucial in helping young people to learn and develop life skills, as well as creating a healthier generation. The Foundation runs a number of creative and innovative education programmes in schools and community settings, focusing on business, employability, enterprise, literacy and numeracy. These programmes are tailored to meet the needs of each partner and have been very well received by the pupils, teachers and community groups that we have worked with.

In September 2013, Fulham Football Club Foundation launched a new Premier League School Sport Programme. The new programme focuses on providing schools with access to high quality coaching opportunities, in football and multi-sport, leading to enhanced physical literacy and fundamental movement skills for children.

Our tailored programmes fall under the following headings:

New support, guidance and resources from the Premier League and the Association for Physical Education (AfPE), the UK’s physical education and school sport subject association, will allow us to improve the quality of teaching available to school pupils and ensure that all of our staff are trained to our very high minimum standards which will include:

-       FA Level 2 Football Coaching Award

-       FA Youth Award Module 1

-       2 day curriculum coaching orientation/induction course

-       Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport

-      Continuous Professional Development

This will provide a core group of curriculum deliverers specifically recruited and trained for the purpose of delivering high quality PE in schools. These coaches will work closely with teachers to plan, deliver and assess the lessons and ensure that the teacher gains valuable learning, skills and confidence during this process. This is all in preparation for the new PE national curriculum and we are working hard with both the Premier League and AfPE to ensure we can support schools to deliver this.

Extra-Curricular Sport

In line with this increased focus on quality and service, we will look to focus efforts on a core number of sports to ensure that coaching and leadership can be provided to the very highest standards. These key focus sports/activities will be:

-       Football

-       Multi-Skills

-       Handball

-       Netball

-       Athletics

-       Tennis

-       Handball

-       Hockey

-       Cricket

-       Badminton

Merton Abbey Primary School is one of the local schools which takes advantage of our curricular, extracurricular and education delivery. At a recent enterprise session, Stella Fry, Headteacher at Merton Abbey, had this to say about our schools coaching programme:

“The children have come up with some really excellent ideas. FFC Foundation engaged everybody and even the quietest of children have been able to come up and speak and have a turn, so for me it’s been really quite exciting, and the children are so enthusiastic. We love working with Fulham.”
