Pedro is a 21-year-old from Brixton, South London. Pedro recently became a father and is expecting another baby. His main passion is football and he has participated in the sport at a good level for a number of years. As a result of his continued dedication to football, he has been offered a trial for a professional Portuguese football team.

Pedro decided to sign up to the My Future Goal programme because he was interested in football coaching, meeting new people – the fact that the course was based at the Craven Cottage was an added incentive.

By being involved in the programme, Pedro was able to attend Craven Cottage and take part in the stadium tour. Pedro successfully completed the course and achieved the OCR entry level 3 in Employability and the Sports Leader level 2 awards.

During the course, the group were invited to deliver a presentation to a number of delegates, Barclays employees and also the CEO of FFC Foundation, Steven Day. Steven commended the students on their ideas, praised them for their confident delivery and then rewarded the group with match tickets for a Fulham match. Pedro was one of the stand out participants during the planning and delivery of the presentation and it was during the planning stages of the presentation that his leadership, communication and team working skills really stood out.

In order to pass the CSLA Level 2, Pedro needed to do 10 hours of voluntary coaching. Pedro committed to several days work experience at the Foundation during the summer 2012 holiday courses. These days allowed Pedro to develop his skills even further by understanding what it’s like coaching for Fulham FC Foundation.

One of Pedro’s highlights has been gaining some valuable inside knowledge of a Premier League team. As Pedro’s main passion is football, he has also thoroughly enjoyed the practical element of the course where he has participated in a range of different sports and has also gained great coaching experience whilst making some new friends.

When asked about whether this course has improved his job prospects, Pedro replied: “Yes it has because I have found out that there are many different types of jobs that you could apply for within a football club.” Pedro also added that he feels more confident in communicating with different audiences which will help him during interviews.

As a result of the My Future Goal project, Pedro will recommend the course to a number of his friends.
