Heading for Success

Enlisting the help of academy scholar Jack Wilson, we aim to show you the important techniques of heading the ball.

As the ball approaches notice how Jack’s knees are bent and his eyes are fixed on the ball so as to enable him to time his jump perfectly.

heading-1

Jack has jumped for the ball with perfect timing and has drawn his head and shoulders back to create the arched lower back position which will provide him with the power to head the ball clear.

heading-2

Having just headed the ball Jack’s body has now gone into a forward arch shape and his arms are up at his sides to protect from challenging opponents and his eyes are fixed firmly in the direction in which the ball is heading.

heading-3

Having completed the clearance Jack’s head is now in advance of his chest showing excellent power in his neck muscles allowing him increased distance on the clearance.
