SIGNED FROM: Notts County
TOP ATTRIBUTES: Stamina, crossing and commitment
Without doubt, Finnan was one of the best Fulham defenders of the recent era. He first signed for the Club when they were in the (old) Second Division and went on to play a key role in the Whites’ subsequent promotions and eventual rise to the Premier League – where he quickly established himself as one of the top-flight’s most consistent performers.
His ability to deliver pin-point crosses coupled with his exceptional reading of the game, soon drew the attentions of England’s top clubs, though, and in June 2003 he signed for Liverpool. The former Republic of Ireland international went on to lift the UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and UEFA Super Cup in his time at Anfield. He ended his career at Portsmouth who he also helped lift the FA Cup following a brief stint in La Liga with Espanyol.
DID YOU KNOW? As a player, Finnan played at a World Cup, in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Cup and all four English divisions.
