We uncover the Fulham heroes of the past – the players that your older brothers and sisters, parents and even grandparents used to cheer on. Here, we reveal the talents of former Captain Lee Clark.

WHEN? 1999-2005

APPEARANCES/GOALS: 178/22

SIGNED FROM: Sunderland

POSITION: Midfielder

TOP ATTRIBUTES: Passing, tackling and drive

Clark was an all-action midfielder, who made an impact at both ends of the pitch – either by protecting his defence or supporting the forwards in front of him. As Fulham climbed back to the top flight, the player was an inspirational presence particularly as the Whites cantered to the (old) Division One title during the 2000/01 season.

His experience and ability to affect a game proved beneficial as Fulham competed with the elite for the first time in 33 years. His last few seasons at the Cottage were hampered by injury, although he did enjoy a fine 2003/04 campaign, helping the Whites to a ninth-place finish. He also played for Newcastle United and Sunderland.

DID YOU KNOW? Clark is widely regarded as one of the best young managers in the country, having worked wonders at Huddersfield Town. He’s now in charge of Birmingham City.
